For those who don't know yet, Download is in studio working on new material!!!! Download: Day 1 Current mood: creative the studio looks magnificent kevin has basically every synth known to man. its really amazing. i mean....really amazing. the walls and all available space is occupied by amazing analog equipment. how could we not make a great record here? its going to be fun - that much is certain. today, we listened to the new SP album and checked out some of the new mixes that Ken Marshall just completed. It sounds intense - a total onslaught. I think some of the peeps buying this cd are gonna be pretty happy. It was nice for me to hear what to my ears, sounded like a return to form for those guys. We are set to begiin writing tomorrow. I plan to keep little updates here as a sort of diary of the process, so I have some way of remembering it later on. Its been 5 years since we made new music together. We are both very excited about it. Mark Spybey is on board for at least a few songs. Looks like things have come full circle. Also on the agenda - completing the Mirror stuff that I have been asked to contribute to - that is my friend Tom's record. I am a huge fan of his music and video work. I urge all who want to be lulled into altered states to watch his website...its non interactive. Just watch it and take a step back into another time and space. www.mirror.fm Also, in the evenings, I am mixing a record by a duo in Echo Park called Work - more info on them when there is music posted somewhere. Making music is really, at the end of the day, just a @#%$ good deal

Kevin and I are in tune with our objectives, which are in tune with eachother. The second song is almost completed. No, there will be no "snippets" or "hints" - that would be pointless, and it would spoil the fun. And, no, I wont be releasing bits and pieces of the new SP album on the internet. That is completely out of my jurisdiction. However, as far as I know, the release date on that album is only 2 months away. As for Download/Plateau...if we keep working at our current pace, we should be seeing a release or 2 in the early new year. Ok, I think I am going to go and try putting something together with the arp 2500 now.

I am going to go to sleep soon, but I am not really tired for some reason. I am excited. Lots of good stuff is happening in my life right now. And for some reason, even if it all fell apart tomorrow, I think I would be ok. And that feels very good.It fuels creativity. We are working 4 to 5 day weeks on the new material, and we are already about 5 songs into the work. The atmosphere and vibe are really really good. I think the studio has a life of its own. I always found that, working at Kevins place. Its like there is a current or spirit running through the equipment. I mean, for instance, he and I use the same consoles for recording and mixing, but his sounds better than mine. I know I know, the monitors are a big part of that, but its more than that. Its totally noise free, and just extremely comfortable. The songs are starting to take shape and some are even at the ready to mix stage. I love it when we are working on something and Kevin is standing nearby and both of us are getting the same energy from it. You just know when something is working, and so the trick is for us to capture those moments and get them in the track. On each track I am trying to make sure I utilize some of the vintage gear for at least a couple of parts. So far, the Arp 2500, the Multimoog, the MS20 with the SQ10 and the VCS3 have been getting some use. That probably means nothing to most people reading this, but basically they are old machines with an enormous amount of character. There has been alot of talk of where we want to take this album creatively, and the ideas Kevin gave me to start with for the songs we have been developing were all amazing. Im @#%$ blown away by what he comes up with. I liken it to a story - thats how Dwayne used to describe his drumming...its like he tells a story with it....same with the tracks he lays down. Its very inspiring and makes me want to do something that will hold it up and complement it nicely, the same way he takes my rough ideas and infuses them with his personality. It just works, and when it works, its really an amazing experience. Also might be going to Dallas soon, so I am getting excited about that.
